Sarah Rose Ezelle- Artists Statement-weapons of the war-Deborah's class

For our quilt square, Avery and I chose the topic of Weapons in the war because it sounded like an interesting thing to research. Our quilt square features two men standing across from each other. Each man has a flag behind him, Union or Confederate. The Union soldier is holding an AK 108, to show that that the Gatling gun, one of the first machine guns ever made, led to faster, more practical machine guns. This also symbolizes how The North had better weapons and technology than the South. The AK 108 is being shot rapidly and the Confederate soldier has blood flowing out of him. This shows how the weapons in the Civil war caused many unnecessary deaths and injuries. The Southern soldier is holding a Springfield rifle, a gun commonly used in the war. This quilt square shows the pain that weapons caused in the Civil War.
