Our quilt square depicts a black soldier next to a cannon fighting a native american. this represents the indian wars of 1866 fought by native americans over land rights. the black soldier represents buffalo soldiers which are black soldiers that fought against indians. the indian war was important because it took a lot of land rights away from native americans.
