Jacques Rapaport- Amnesty Act of 1872- Michael's Office

Artist Statement
My topic is the Amnesty act of 1872. The act allowed former Confederates to vote or hold public offices. It gave the south back to the Democrats. The picture of the man with the piece of paper is President Ulysses S. Grant signing the Amnesty Act.  The picture with saying whites and non- whites represents segregation which is what happened after the Democrats took control of the south. The people that Grant pardoned helped create segregation.
