iron clad battleships artist statement (harry deborahs class)

My second artist’s statement

My topic is ironclad battleships and the role that they play in the civil war.
Iron clads are steam propelled iron covered boats. They could have either a metal hull or a wooden hull.

My quilt peace has two ships fighting in the first iron clad ships battle.
The two ship names were the Merrimac and the monitor.
The monitor was the union ship and the Merrimac was the confederate ship previously known as the CSS Virginia.
The Merrimac destroyed three regular (not iron clad ships) of the union previously that day.

It also shows a modern battleship in translucent paper to show what the ironclads then influenced today.
iron clad battleships influenced the disighn of modern day battleships and created a turning point for war ships in and out of the civil war.
