Sienna Capella - Sarah's Office

Capella's Artist Statement:
Sienna and I are doing California becoming a free state in 1850. Are picture is Mexico in red with an arrow pointing to California which is in yellow which has an arrow pointing to the U.S.A. in green. This is representing California leaving Mexico and going to the U.S.A.. The acquisition of California has led to the gold rush bringing a lot of people to the west coast and now Holly-Wood is in California which is a very big part of the U.S's entertainment industry. California becoming a free state was a very big deal to the north side. It took from 1848 through 1850 to get it to become a free state after the war with Mexico where we got it which was from 1846 through 1848.

Sienna's Artist Statement:
The quilt square me and Capella made is about when we had the Mexican War, we took many states including California.  When California became a state of the USA it listed as a free state which started lots of controversy.
