Janai Julia - Sarah's Office

Julia's artist statement
The Dred Scott Case was a big deal and today plays out in how people are treated. The Dred Scott Case was about a man; Dred Scott, a slave standing up for what he thought was right and doing something. He tried and that matters. We drew a picture of the Constitution and then Dred Scott being chained to to the Constitution. The reason we chose to do this was because Dred Scott was denied his rights because of rules, one rule was "Any person with any African American descent isn't allowed to sue". Dred Scott was suing his owner for his freedom. More background to this story is that Dred Scott was taken to multiple places with his owner, places where slavery wasn't allowed and he believed that he should be free, so he took action. He didn't win but he tried, and he was recognized later on.
