Amy Barbara Maya - Sarah's Office

Barbara's Artist Statement:
This quilt is a scene showing Abraham Lincoln's assassination. When he died, it brought a lot of sadness and sorrow to the country that he served with great honor. He was a magnificent man and didn't deserve to get shot by a man named John Wilkes on April 15th 1865 at 7:22 in the morning. Abraham Lincoln had a totally different view on slavery than anyone else. But in a good way, he had a good view, a great view, a fantastic view! His view was so marvelous that he brought even more peace and respect between blacks and whites. He has earned way more than just a spot on this quilt because slavery was the main key durring the Civil War. And he was the main key to stopping slavery and discrimination. If only he had lived till old age, for he would have made an unforgettable and overpowering difference in America.
In the words of Abraham Lincoln,
"All men and women are created equal."

Thank You,
Natalie Grey

Maya’s Artist Statement
Everyone knows who Abraham Lincoln was. Everyone knows he was the 16th president. But not everyone knows what he lived and died for. He fought to free the slaves. He was the one who made the decision to start the civil war. So, my group decided to create the scene of the night that President Lincoln was assassinated. We thought that it was an important time in history because Abraham that was a day that we still remember today and people still dispute about. There were two sides fighting for what they believed in.  And Mr. Lincoln was on one of those sides. It was a big shock to the whole country when he died and it still is. It reminds us that whoever shot him that night wanted something very badly just like those two sides. We are still on one of those sides.
Thanks, Athena Kendrick
