                                                      ARTIST STATEMENT


                Our topic is on women spies. When the men went off to war, the women had to stay home and take care of the house and family. The women got bored of cleaning, they wanted to help out and fight for what they believed in. Groups of women organized sanitary fairs to ship aid supplies to the soldiers at war, others were able to get information from government officials and hand it over to the opposite side. Some of the women were able to disguise themselves as men and fought at war. The men didn't want the women to help them so the women came up with the secret service for women allowing them to participate in the war as spies. It contributes to women being able to fight at war or help out government officials by spying, it also helps women leaderships. Our quilt has a person standing in the middle of the page, we drew a line down the middle dividing the person in half on one half we drew half a woman on the other half we drew half a man. It shows that men and women are equal, they're able to do what the other can.
