Artist Statement
This quilt piece represents the good that came from the 15th amendment.
The 15th amendment gave African Americans the right to vote and also get a lot
more rights. Although this was a good thing for the African Americans some
of the people from the south got mad because they didn’t believe that the African Americans deserved to be treated equally. This was a very historical event for everyone
in that time because they were making a change about the unfairness that was
going on. This has helped the present
because now we treat everyone as equals and understand that no one should be
claimed as property of someone else. The
15th amendment really helped represent that because it made it clear
to people that African Americans counted as people too. All of these pictures represent that time period
and the 15th amendment.
