Artist Statement
In our quilt piece we are showing the battle of Vicksburg. The river going through the middle of the quilt piece is the Mississippi river, it is showing that whoever controls the town of Vicksburg, controls the movement of the Mississippi river. The scene in the middle is a portrayal of the actual fighting in the battle. The cannon is one of the main weapons used by the union to take the town. The other picture is just showing where Vicksburg is in the United States. It was one of General Grant’s greatest victories. It was a big turning point in the war.
